About Michael Lee

WHo he is?

Michael Lee is a researcher and practitioner whose expertise ranges from traditional media production to computer science. From his undergradue to graduate schoo, he studied computer science (programming), media production, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), and video game. Before he became an academian, he worked for a cable television (program provider) and a network station (super station) in South Korea as a director and  technical director. He is currently an associate professor in the department of Media at Ball State University teaching media production, XR/3D design, and web development. He is certified Adobe Professional with Video, Web, Photoshop, and Illustrator. He also serve as n associate chair of the department and co-chair of XR certificate program.  


He is interested how people respond to a new way of storytelling, such as intereactive narrative. A story like Black mirro in the Netflix put itself in between a traditinal linear video and fully interactive video game. Combined with traditional storytelling technique, communication technology enable viewers/users to enjoy stories in variousl different wasys nased on their preference and personal traits. 
He is also interested how people process and recognize realism in non-real  spac, such as virtaul and imaginary worll called inferential and cognitive realism or social realism. For this, he tried to come up with a definition of believability as a social realism. In the same token, he also is interested in finding what happen if the social realism go beyond/fall short in related to believability and uncanniness.
